Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC)
A striking landmark on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River), the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) is the largest convention and exhibition space in Australia. Located in the vibrant dining and shopping district of South Wharf, the MCEC is tailor made for conferences and delegates alike.
The MCEC’s three buildings cover over 70,000m2 space, including a 5,500 seat plenary, 63 meeting rooms, integrated outdoor spaces and 39,000m2 of exhibition space. MCEC was the first convention centre in the world to be awarded a 6-star Green Star environmental rating. The MCEC is a smoke-free venue, including the use of e-cigarettes.
MCEC began as the Melbourne Exhibition Centre in 1996, affectionally termed “Jeff’s Shed” by the locals after the then Premier of Victoria. After a major precinct development, the site evolved to include the Melbourne Convention Centre and in 2009 was relaunched as the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, or MCEC for short.
MCEC is located just 20 minutes from the Melbourne Tullamarine International Airport, a short walk from Flinders Street and Southern Cross Stations and is surrounded by multiple hotels and accommodation options.
