What can YOU do?

Everyone plays a part in experiencing a conference that is kind to the planet and leaves positive legacies that benefit the community.

As an attendee at AIEC, here are some of the things you can do to help.  Let us know what else you are doing!

Attendees

1. Reduce carbon emissions

  • Offset your travel, or your staff’s travel emissions, by supporting verified carbon offset projects.
  • Opt for zero or low emission transportation options such as walking, cycling, public transport, carpooling, or book Uber Green.

2. Strive for zero-plastic

  • Pick up a sponsored water bottle to refill or bring your own.
  • Bring your own reusable coffee cups.

3. Minimise your contribution to landfill

  • Download the program at a glance or the conference app for the most up-to-date information.
  • Use proper waste segregation with the onsite recycling bins for cardboard, plastic and other recyclable materials.
  • Use digital business cards instead of printed cards.

4. Increase your awareness

  • Visit the Green Lounge in the exhibition to enhance your knowledge and understanding of sustainability practices.
  • Participate in a braindate hosted by one of the CANIE members.
  • Share what you learned and discussed at the conference with your networks to raise awareness among your peers.
  • Visit the CANIE, CABie and Value Learning stands to fill out self-awareness questionnaires to find out your level of intercultural competence and/or calculate your travel emissions to travel to the conference
  • Pedal your way to a delicious smoothie.

5. Foster inclusivity and celebrate diversity

  • Actively engage in networking opportunities to meet individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, fostering inclusive conversations and connections.
  • Attend sessions focused on diversity, equality and inclusion to gain a better understanding of how to create an inclusive environment within and outside the conference.

6. Follow sustainable food management practices

  • Avoid food waste by taking only what you are going eat.
  • Only RSVP to the social events you are going to attend.
  • If you change your mind and cannot attend a social event (after your RSVP), please let us know ASAP so we can avoid excessive food waste and adjust quantities based on actual numbers.

7. Prioritise local, ethical and sustainable suppliers

  • Seek out and support local businesses or artisans when purchasing souvenirs or gifts, promoting local economic growth and reducing transportation emissions.
  • Visit the Artisans’ Market during the Welcome Reception and talk to local producers about their products.
