What can YOU do?
Everyone plays a part in experiencing a conference that is kind to the planet and leaves positive legacies that benefit the community.
As a supplier or a venue for AIEC, here are some of the things you can do to help. Let us know what else you are doing!
Suppliers, contractors and venues
1. Reduce carbon emissions
- Offset emissions from your prouction, packaging and delivery as part of your service.
2. Strive for zero-plastic
- Provide different bins for different recyclables, i.e., paper bins, cardboard bins, etc.
- Use fully biodegradable and compostable cups and lids for hot and cold drinks.
3. Minimise your contribution to landfill
- Use biodegradable and compostable cups and lids for hot and cold drinks.
- Use fresh produce and reduce/eliminate cardboard, tins and plastic packaging.
- Install a recycling system that turns food and organic waste into fertiliser and compost.
- Offer reusable crockery for all meals.
4. Increase your awareness
- Provide staff with appropriate training and resources.
- Recruit people whose personal values complement your organisation’s sustainability objectives.
5. Foster inclusivity and celebrate diversity
- Provide accessible facilities and services for attendees with disabilities, including wheelchair accessibility.
- Initiate and support programs that benefit the environment, children, the disadvantaged, people with disabilities and/or minority groups.
6. Follow sustainable food management practices
- Reduce waste to landfill.
- Introduce food redistribution programs where unused/untouched meals can be donated to local charities or foodbanks.
- Purchase food and beverage products locally.
7. Prioritise local, ethical and sustainable suppliers
- Support local producers.
