Theme: International Education in the Asian Century We are witnessing the advent of a new era, with the 21st Century already dubbed “the Asian Century”. The focus of global power and influence is shifting. Relentless strategic, political, economic and cultural changes mean the Asian region is increasingly the focus and the driver of momentous global realignments. The Australian Government’s recently commissioned White Paper “Australia in the Asian Century” (the Henry Review) signals a profound escalation in Australian thinking about Asia through the recognition that Asian forces are now so profound they will change where and how Australians live and work. These forces will also impact on other world regions. AIEC 2012 will explore the role international education, training and research will play in the 21st century. The emphasis will be on how Australia, and other countries and regions, might work together and in partnership with Asia to help shape this “Asian Century”.
